Fabrizio Romano confirms the worst switch information for United followers right this moment
Delivering the news that no Manchester United fan would want to hear this morning, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have successfully signed Sergio Reguilon.
The young full-back was believed to be on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's radar this summer and so his attention needs to be directed elsewhere.
Reguilon was seen as an ideal new addition as he was known for his attacking strength and is only 23 years old. So there is room for improvement.
It became clear pretty quickly that United had no issues with the fee or personal terms for the player.
The sticking point for Solskjaer's side was the buyback clause and the pre-emptive decision, and it appears these were things that did not concern Spurs.
Tottenham have given Real Madrid BOTH clauses they requested for Reguilon: buyback and right of first refusal. # MUFC has always refused every clause to bring the player back – it was the main problem. ⚪️🇪🇸 #THFC

It's still pretty surprising how quickly Tottenham managed to skip the Red Devils as it was only a day or two ago that Reguilon was believed not to be a priority for them.
After all, Jose Mourinho is endowed with Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon, so no one really predicted that it would be a key signing.
The latter can, to be fair, be played as a left winger. Maybe that was the reason for the decision.
While it is frustrating to miss Reguilon, Manchester United are far better off not accepting the clauses Madrid insisted on as they would only backfire in the long run.
Manchester United's new star, Donny van de Beek, will become the 13th Dutch international to play for the senior team. But how much do you know about the other 12? Take our quiz to find out.
