Perez takes the lead early within the Dubai last

Victor Perez took the lead in one fell swoop after the opening round of the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The French wanted to be the first player to be crowned Race to Dubai champion.

The 28-year-old has already finished two second places this year and is sixth on the European Tour's money list.

Perez took a European Tour victory after winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last year, and he's in the driver's seat for a second win after hitting six birdies on the way to a five under par on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Bob MacIntyre, Matt Fitzpatrick and Erik van Rooyen share second place at four under par, while Martin Kaymer, Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood and young Finnish star Sami Välimäki are hunting for three under par.
