The goat? Messi equals Pele's one-club objectives
Lionel Messi has achieved Pele's one-club goals after finishing his 643rd place for Barcelona against Valencia.
Considered by many the best player of all time, Brazilian Pele scored 643 goals in just 656 games for Santos between 1956 and 1974.
While Pele’s overall career record is controversial, he scored 643 goals in official competition for Santos.
Some believed Pele's move was a world record in top football, although statisticians cannot confirm it with absolute certainty.
That said, this is unlikely to affect Messi's performance as he caught up with Pele's remarkable result after a header in added time in the first half on Saturday.
After initially seeing a penalty from Jaume Domenech, Messi scored his milestone goal when he hit a cross from the left and nodded home from very close range.
