Olunga scores once more when Al Duhail SC beat Al Kharaitiyat within the Qatar Stars League
The Harambee star continued in good form after helping his team take a major league win
Kenyan international Michael Olunga was on the report again when Al Duhail SC scored a 2-1 win over Al Kharaitiyat in a Qatar Stars League match on Saturday.
Duhail were the better team in that game at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium as they scored the two goals in the second half to bring their points in the league to 37 and maintain their second position.
After a 0-0 draw in the first half, Mohammed Muntari gave Duhail the lead in the 69th minute. Five minutes before the final whistle, the towering Harambee Stars striker scored the 2-0 for the crucial points.
Duhail started the game offensively and it was clear they wanted to find the back of the net early on, but the Kharaitiyat team's defensive method did not give the Duhail players enough space to move around and build the attacks.
The team's opening chance went to Edimilson Junior, whose shot kissed the crossbar in the 23rd minute, and the second chance went to Olunga, who shot a powerful shot that rattled the post before scoring a goal kick.
In the second half, Duhail continued his offensive pressure while Kharitiyat kept his defensive area tight by closing all rooms and relying only on counter-attacks to try to stun Duhail.
In the 69th minute, Muntari, who had just come on after an injury for Al-Moez Ali and formed the squad on matchday, scored the first goal with a header and used Eduardo Dudu's cross to place the ball in the back of the Network.
Olunga grabbed the second goal in the 85th minute and used a Dudu corner to rise above the Kharaitiyat defenders and hit goalkeeper Say Eliethy with a powerful header.
Duhail kept attacking in the remaining minutes to score a third goal, but Kharaitiyat stayed close to end the game 2-0.
Olunga, who signed for Duhail from Japan's Kashiwa Reysol, helped the team advance to the Emir Cup quarter-finals after beating Al-Shamal 2-0 at Suheim bin Hamad Stadium last Tuesday.
During the cup game, Olunga gave Duhail the lead in the 45th minute before Abdullah Al-Ahrak scored the second goal in the 84th minute.
Duhail are now 10 points behind leaders Al Sadd and face Al-Sailiya in another league game on March 11.
