O & # 39; Brien Delight regardless of 147 errors
Fergal O'Brien missed the last pink when he got the chance to become the oldest player to ever make an official 147, despite still making it through the first phase of the WST Pro series.
O’Brien finished second in Group F behind Ben Woollaston and both players have reached the second phase of next week.
In a tense end of the group in Milton Keynes, four players were drawn level with four wins each in the seventh and final round of the games. O & # 39; Brien scored a 2-0 win over Igor Figueiredo to secure second place, while Woollaston scored a 2-1 win over Robbie McGuigan to take first place.
Dublin's O & # 39; Brien scored a strong goal throughout the day, scoring four centuries and a decisive 88 against Brazilian top player Figueiredo in the final frame.
But there was regret for the world number 114, O'Brien when he got so close to the second 147 of his career during his game against Noppon Saengkham but missed the pink on 134 in the middle.
At 49, he would have comfortably beaten the oldest player record held by John Higgins, 45, to get a maximum.
"That was a blow because it would have been nice to get a maximum," said the former British Open champion. “Not many players had more than one.
"I lost two of my first three games so my lunch wouldn't taste that good. But beating Noppon gave me a boost and I've played well in my last three games. I knew I had to win them all. I'm happy to be to get through.
"I had a very bad season, I wasn't in the habit of winning anymore. I had won five games all season and five today. Plus, I hadn't a century all season and now four. I needed confidence and more games to get ahead of that World qualifiers to get sharper.
“It would mean anything to get back to the Crucible. I had the ecstasy of victory and the agony of defeat. "
BetVictor Welsh Open champion Jordan Brown could have qualified for the Cazoo Tour Championship on a deep run, but finished fifth on the standings and put his hopes down.
