Stefan Bissegger wins stage four of the Tour de Suisse
Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-Nippo) took his second win in 2021 on Wednesday on the rainy 4th stage of the Tour de Suisse.
The 22-year-old Swiss all-rounder formed a four-driver breakaway group together with Joel Suter (Switzerland), Joey Rosskopf (rally) and Benjamin Thomas (Groupama-FDJ), who covered almost 100 km in the 171 km long stage from Sankt Urban to Gstaad . Suter was dropped within the last 20 km, but the remaining trio held out to claim the stage win among themselves.
Rosskopf took the lead on the home stretch, but when Bissegger approached, he quickly stormed past. Thomas got around Rosskopf, but couldn't keep up with Bissegger, who took a clear win on the line. Thomas was content with second place, Rosskopf came third. Suter arrived 23 seconds later, and then Edward Theuns (Trek-Segafredo) led the peloton 5:16 back home.
Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) finished safely in the field and maintained his overall lead.
