The battle for first place in Group D – and a round of 16 duel with France, Portugal or Germany (or even Hungary) – will be played on Tuesday afternoon between the only two undefeated teams in the group.

Both teams have scored a win and a draw at Euro 2020 so far, with the Czech Republic currently holding first place due to a better goal difference.

Send with the plan

For the Czechs, their key to victory seems lonely and clear – take the ball to striker Patrik Schick. With three goals in two games, the Bayer Leverkusen striker is the tournament's top scorer alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and so far the only Czech to have made it onto the net.

3 – Patrik Schick has scored all three of the Czech Republic's goals at EURO 2020; most by one player at a major tournament in the country since Milan Baros at EURO 2004 (5). Focus. #CZE # EURO2020

The goalscorer was elbowed in the head by Croatian Dejan Lovren in the last game – before taking the resulting penalty to put his team in the lead. He is still expected to take the lead here, however, and his presence will be crucial in building Czech hopes of further unsettling a troubled English team.

England has history in it

If the Czechs reach the knockout stage for the fourth time since independence at the European Championships, they will likely have to improve their record against England. In four encounters the Czech Republic has one win against two defeats and one draw.

However, they won the last meeting of the teams in October 2019 2-1 in qualifying for this tournament. That was the return leg in Prague after the Czechs beat 5-0 at Wembley when Raheem Sterling, England's only goalscorer to date, scored a hat trick.

In Kane we trust

England's captain and talisman Harry Kane has had a tournament to forget so far. The top scorer of the 2018 World Cup was played without a shot on goal and was substituted in both games.

Alan Shearer's analysis of Harry Kane on the BBC was excellent. Striker's Eye. Speaking of not always missing out, highlighting the lack of service and claiming that earlier ball (the Rice material). Plus Kane's support to get good. Just as Venables supported Shearer before 96 euros. #CLOSELY

But a player with 34 goals in 55 caps should not be taken lightly, and England coach Gareth Southgate has already confirmed that the Tottenham striker will take the lead again on Tuesday.

The opposition could hardly be better for a player who has only scored two goals in his last eleven games while trying to break out of the now three games goalless slump. Kane has scored two goals in two games against the Czech Republic and scored seven shots in those games.

Can three Lions present their case?

Despite being a squad of exceptional players for many viewers, Southgate has so far not been able to find the right combination of players and tactics to get this English team up to speed.

A team that misses Jadon Sancho twice must be phenomenal on attack.

The average law states that at some point he will stumble upon the correct formula, but so far he has seemed unwilling to deviate from a set idea and education. That includes using a pair of defensive midfielders to protect a back four, and he's named the same four offensive players in both games so far, with a paltry 1.9 xG for them.

Jadon Sancho has 114 goals / assists in 137 games for Borussia Dortmund. 💛

He has not played a minute at # EURO2020

With the likes of Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, not to mention Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, all waiting in the wings, it seems unlikely that England will not figure things out at some point. But whether this “Eureka moment” comes against the Czechs or afterwards is the crucial point here.

Does either team really want to win?

The loot goes to the winners … and probably a much greater chance of an early exit from Euro 2020. With the winner of this game, the winner of this game will very likely lock themselves in a round of 16 with defending champions Portugal, reigning world champions France or against Germany for several years , who looked terribly good in Saturday's 4-2 draw against Portugal, the Group D win seems more a curse than a blessing.

Full concentration on Tuesday.

The team that finished second would, however, book a possible duel with Spain, but it could also be Sweden, Slovakia or Poland. While any of the teams in the midst of the vortex are unlikely to have knockout permutations on their minds on Tuesday, stranger things have happened in international football.
