Alcaraz Garfia defeats Murray

18-year-old Alcaraz Garfia wins against former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray. The teenager defeated the former Grand Slam champion in straight sets and won 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

The two recently faced each other in Indian Wells, where Murray won the match. The young Spaniard managed to recover from this defeat and find a way to victory in Vienna.

Murray couldn't take a break in the match as Alcaraz Garfia was strong. The 18-year-old broke Murray's serve fairly early in the first set to set a tone.

In the second set it was Murray who was strong, but that didn't take long as Alcaraz Garfia managed to take control, minimizing any swing Murray could find.

With Berrettini, the young superstar has another big task ahead of him. This will be his toughest match of the tournament and he will try to play it point by point against the top 10 players

Berrettini's comeback

The 25-year-old Italian had to find a way to make a comeback when he quickly lost a set against Nikoloz Basilashvili in the round of 16. It took three sets, but Berrettini managed it with a 6 (5) -7 (7), 6-2, 6-3 win over the Georgian tennis player in a game that lasted a little over two hours.

Berrettini's serve was on fire when he recorded 22 aces with just one double fault in the round of 16. His opponent only managed five aces to four double faults. This was a substantial increase over the five aces he saw in his previous match.

Not only did the Italian fire 22 aces, but he won 82 percent of the time he landed his first serve and followed with 58 percent on the second.

He held a 3-2 head-to-head record against Basilashvili early in the game and managed to extend the lead to 4-2 with the win.

In the quarter-finals he will now meet Alcaraz Garfia, whom he has never seen on tour before.

head to head

This will be the first encounter between these two players as their head-to-head record is currently 0-0.

Best bid

Teenage boy Alcaraz Garfia competed in this tournament with a record of 22-15 for the year and a record of 22-16 for his career. Berrettini, on the other hand, entered this tournament with a 39-10 record for 2021 and a 110-61 career record. It's safe to say that the Italian will go into this match with a little more experience than the 18-year-old.

It's not just experience that gives Berrettini the edge, the 25-year-old also managed to place 7th in the top 10. Alcaraz Garfia is just 18 years old with a number 42 in the world rankings on the way there.

Coupled with the experience Berrettini has gained with Alcaraz Garfia, his experience will most likely overwhelm the 18 year old. If he manages even half of his 22 aces in this quarter-final game, it will be a difficult task for the Spaniard. Look to Berrettini to secure your place in the semi-finals.

Best bet: Berrettini 2-0 (-130)
