Official: Ronald Koeman removed from office after a record-breaking defeat at Barcelona

Koeman comments on Barcelona's weak position

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman was in the firing line again after Blaugrana suffered a shock loss to soaring Rayo Vallecano tonight in the Spanish capital.

It was the first time Barcelona have suffered a loss to Rayo since 2002, which raised new questions about how long Koeman had stayed at Camp Nou in Catalonia.

Will he make it through the season?

In quotes from the Spanish outlet MARCA, the Dutchman said he did not know whether his position was in jeopardy or not after the club lost points in ten La Liga games for the sixth time.

“I don't know if my job is at risk. The situation is awkward. We have players who can score goals, we may have a weaker midfield, but I can't complain about the team.

It was difficult for us to get a grip on the game, they put a lot of pressure on us and they were able to hold out. The result is not fair, but it is what it is and we cannot change it now.

They may have a more balanced squad, maybe they are better built than us. We showed that we can play, but being at a good level is not enough.

It's incredible that we lost this game. There are many more games to come and I'm worried about how effective we are but not how we play. We created a lot and played well, but that doesn't count in Spain. It's better if I don't say anything. "

However, according to journalist Tancredi Palmeri, Koeman is on the verge of being fired from his current leadership position at Barça.

Ronald Koeman has never been so close to a layoff as he was tonight.

What still keeps him at Barcelona is that Laporta has no clear decision on who to hire after him.

Xavi still the strongest candidate

– Tancredi Palmeri (@tancredipalmeri) October 27, 2021

To be honest, no one can blame Barcelona for breaking up with the former Barcelona midfielder as the club played on the pitch over the summer despite their split from Lionel Messi. But Palmeri's claim that Koeman is staying in his position for no other reason than being unable to pick the best candidate for his replacement may be even more frustrating for the Barça fan base.

While he claims Xavi is still the strongest candidate, Barcelona have been linked to a number of names from Erik ten Hag to Antonio Conte.

Regardless, if the club tries to get back on track both at home and abroad in a campaign that is on the verge of escalating control, the club must either steadfastly support Koeman (and deal with all the consequences) or replace it as soon as possible before the hammer hits the nail.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Barcelona board of directors made the decision tonight to call an emergency meeting with the Italian journalist claiming the bell rang for Koeman at Camp Nou after too many poor results so early in 2021-22.

This has since been confirmed by the club.

FC Barcelona has released Ronald Koeman from his duties as a first-team coach

Given that the club is even more likely to part ways with the former Dutch international, it is fair to suggest that club president Joan Laporta selected who he would like to replace Ronald Koeman with at the earliest opportunity.
